INVITATION TO Visit to the Biodynamic  farm and gardens in Newnham.
Tuesday 26th July 2011, 10am – 12 noon.
(sent by Lita Power)
Biodynamic farming and gardening is a world wide practice inspired by Dr Rudolf Steiner in the 1920′s and is very successful.  There are a few of them in Gloucestershire, two of which are in The Forest.  Needless to say, they are all organic with the aim of preserving the earth in a healthy way using biodynamic preparations and an intricate knowledge of the stars and planets.

This small farm (about 8 acres), is situated in the heart of the Camphill Grange Village between Little Dean and Newnham-on-Severn. There will be a guided tour led by the farmer (David Herman)/the gardener (Toni)/main garden apprentice, depending on who is available at the time.  At present it seems that they will all be there.

DIRECTIONS :  From Newnham, take the Little Dean road opposite the Post Office. It is about one mile away and signposted ‘Grange Village’ on your left.  Go over the cattle grid and park as near to it as possible.  Parking is restricted so it is wise to share transport.  The offices are on your left and Lita will be there to meet you.
Please let Lita know how many people are likely to come by phoning/leaving a message/e-mail.  01452 790802 - moc.l1337427260iamel1337427260goog@1337427260rewop1337427260jk1337427260/" target="_blank" wotsearchprocessed="true" style="color: rgb(7, 77, 143); ">moc.l1337427260iamel1337427260goog@1337427260rewop1337427260jk1337427260

  Hope to see you there.

Sow & Grow Workshops – feedback from Sharon Hockey…..
8 volunteers attended 8 playgroup sessions in Newent, Gorsley and Cliffords Mesne …… Approximately 150 toddlers planted seeds and took them home to look after them. The hope is that more and more families will be tempted to grow at least some lettuce in a window box or for the children to see where peas and beans come from through first hand experience.

Last years sessions inspired some families to get an allotment, others to share a piece of land to grow vegetables and allow the children to grow and play together ….. Already this year families come up to me and tell me how their plants are doing …… I just hope that it will bring more and more families together in the local community

It would be great to organise a few more family type events like the walks and activities at Castle Fruit Farm or in peoples gardens and we would be happy to promote them to the families around Newent.  Any suggestions for future events and activities, please contact Sharon Hockey on 015310821606, mobile: 07780-656204 or email (intermittent) <ten.o1337427260cset@1337427260yekco1337427260h.nor1337427260ahs1337427260/" target="_blank" wotsearchprocessed="true" style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11pt; color: rgb(7, 77, 143); ">ten.o1337427260cset@1337427260yekco1337427260h.nor1337427260ahs1337427260

A short report of what is happening in the world on Transition…..

Here is a link to a great 20 min film on Growing Food Locally Initiatives, perfect for a local showing with follow up discussion, also for food group etc a must see.

Money is rolling in to TT Totness once you have momentum look what is possible – money being loaned to the community and individuals to support the installation of renewables etc

Also it contains a video on ‘Transition Together’ this is a street by street approach to your town aimed at creating practical action by local people who have not yet started reducing their carbon footprint. An excellent workbook to get individual streets doing stuff for themselves – sounds perfect for unexplored streets of Newent. Its not about Climate Change and Peak oil head on, but about taking action which deals with the issues best we can.
